SAY YES TO OFFICIATING!
Basketball officiating is wonderful if you are interested in being constantly active and closely involved with the game action. It is a sport you can officiate nearly year-round via youth to high school, AAU and amateur contests, thus having a higher earning potential than many other sports.
Basketball officiating is a challenging job, but there are great rewards. To be a successful official, you will need mental toughness, good people skills and thick skin. The Great Lakes Basketball Officials Consortium (GLBOC) staff will inherently teach you all of those skills and much more. We will answer all your questions, help get you started, provide continuous training, and mentorship to ensure you are successful and most of all, enjoy the art of officiating basketball.
If you love sports, you will have the best view of the game as an official. Get ready to challenge yourself and start one of the most rewarding jobs you’ll ever have!

MHSAA Registration is now open for the 2026-2027 season. November 16,2026 is the last day for Basketball registration. After November 16th, it is a $30 late fee for renewing officials.
Congratulations to these basketball coaches class of 2026 BCAM Hall of Fame selection. Well deserved!

2026 GLBOC Basketball Camp Gallery
The 2026 GLBOC Basketball Camp at Northwood University was a tremendous success. Many thanks to Scott Helmka, Steve Muenzer, and Jason Andrzejewski for putting the camp together. They donated all the proceeds (minus expenses) back to the Association’s training funds. A big shoutout to all the campers who attended the one-day session. They showed an exceptional initiative to get better and did they ever!!

We are proud to announce our future partnership with Battlefields to Ballfields. A foundation that provides Military Veterans an opportunity to integrate back into their communities through sports officiating. Founded in 2018 by Mike Pereira, former NFL Referee and now Fox Sports Rules Analyst. More info to follow, but if you know a veteran who may be interested, please give them Scott Helmka’s telephone number 989-529-5152. We will incorporate this into our recruiting program led by Sharon, Rico and Adam.
Officiate Michigan Day (OMD) was a tremendous success! Well attended, and full of training content shared. Unlike past events, this one focused entirely on training, covering updated positioning fundamentals, mechanics, 5 keys to every game, and much more. We will be covering all of this in our upcoming season training and post to our Members Only page.
